Chib

Yukiko Chiba of Tokyo records under the name Chib and, in common with fellow artists Colleen and Mira Calix, produces delicate, detailed, organic-sounding electronic music. After ten years of piano study she abandoned formal lessons because she found them stifling and dull, yet she kept creating, weaving her classical background into pieces that draw equally on conventional instruments such as piano and guitar, music boxes, and altered samples captured in restaurants or parks. She joined the Fat Cat roster in 2001, contributed to the label’s No Watches, No Maps compilation, and released her first EP, Moco, in 2004.
