Biography
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Australian duo Chimers assembled and channeled their musical influences into their own version of the American post-hardcore sound. Their self-titled debut album appeared in 2021, while their sophomore effort Through Today arrived in late 2024.
Padraic Skehan and his partner Binx, both longtime drummers active in Sydney’s underground garage and punk circles, gained unexpected free time once the COVID-19 pandemic began. They turned to writing new material inspired by Wipers, Hüsker Dü, and Mission of Burma, with Skehan stepping forward to handle guitar and vocals as Binx took over on drums. Within a few months they issued their debut single, the super-limited 7” “Mono/Got Time.” After devoting further time to writing and recording, the pair self-released their eponymous debut album in 2021. Live shows commenced in 2022, including dates alongside the Mark of Cain, Tumbleweed, and Hard Ons, and they released the single “Cracks.” In 2023 they played more concerts, among them a high-profile support slot for Mudhoney’s Australian tour, and issued the singles “Generator” and “Turn on the Lights.” The following year the duo returned to the studio to begin work on their second album. After signing with Melbourne-based indie Poison City Records and teaming with Jonathan Boulet (Empty Start, Party Dozen), Chimers released Through Today in late 2024.
