Biography
Choirboi Cam, a contemporary Christian performer whose sound fuses praise-and-worship, hip-hop, contemporary gospel, and the close-harmony singing he first encountered in childhood, stepped onto the scene in 2014 with his debut album War Zone while still in his early teens. The South Carolina native Cameron Owens Hunter, raised in Piedmont, had already begun harmonizing with relatives during church services and soon began composing original material. By his mid-teens he had taken the stage name Choirboi Cam and launched a touring career.
While still enrolled in high school he issued his second album, the 2016 release The Destiny Project, whose more seasoned perspective drew on the perspective gained through travel and personal development. At that point he had also become active in anti-bullying efforts and appeared on the Now Network series More Than Music. An EP titled Against the Wall arrived in 2017; two years later he expanded the project into the full-length Growing Pains, which reached number nine on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart and also registered on the Heatseekers and Independent Albums tallies.
