Chopper ignited a modest punk community in Wakefield, England, while also claiming the distinction of being Crackle Records’ inaugural signing to its pop-punk roster. Their unadorned approach—innocent, straightforward three-chord pop-punk—eventually reached listeners worldwide. The Said and Done EP marked their debut in 1994, after which a string of Crackle singles followed in rapid succession over the ensuing two years: “Self-Preservation Society” in 1995, “Porcelain” and “For Youth and Valour” in 1996, a split release with Broccoli that same year, and another split with Blew in 1997. Following a 1997 trek through England and Japan, the band assembled the compilation Did You Hear That, gathering every prior EP and compilation track dating back to Said and Done. Their first proper full-length, Last Call for the Dancers, finally appeared in 1998, yet the group disbanded shortly thereafter.
