Biography
Emerging as a side project from the Seattle folk-punk outfit known as the Walkabouts, Chris & Carla highlights the songwriting talents of Chris Eckman and Carla Torgerson from that group. The acoustic, folk-oriented endeavor launched in 1993 via the live recording Shelter for an Evening, captured during a performance in Germany. In 1995, the duo returned with the studio album Life Full of Holes, which featured contributions from R.E.M.'s Peter Buck alongside musicians from Britain's Tindersticks. Later that same year came another live set, Nights Between Stations, documented in Greece. The 1998 release Swinger 500 incorporated guest spots from additional Walkabouts personnel, Camper Van Beethoven's David Immerglück, and Danny Barnes of the Bad Livers, with Ljubljana appearing as a subsequent live album in 1999. Eckman and Torgerson sustained their commitments to the Walkabouts while issuing sporadic Chris & Carla recordings in the 2000s, such as Come as You Aren't in 2001 and Fly High Brave Dreamers in 2007.
