Biography
With roots in indie folk, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Chris Riffle has drawn stylistic parallels to Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and Ben Lee. Raised in rural Washington State amid a musical household, he regularly joined his parents for singing and playing. He performed in a band throughout high school and part of his studies at Bellingham's Fairhaven College before deciding to focus exclusively on solo recording and live work. Early shows included opening slots for Mary Lou Lord and Death Cab for Cutie, while the track "Wonderboy" from his self-released album The Sun Is Up (2004) earned rotation on Western Washington University's radio station. Following his relocation to New York City, Riffle began work within two years on the sophomore album Introducing...Chris Riffle (2010), produced by Jimi Zhivago (Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones). The EPs I Am Not from Here (2011) and Another Dream (2012) came next, leading into his third album Out of Town (2015). Zhivago returned to refine Riffle's gentle, aching sound.
