Biography
Recognized with a Juno Award, Chris Tarry stands out among bassists in contemporary jazz. Although he calls New York City home, his birth took place in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on August 24, 1970. He launched the Chris Tarry Group in 1993 and guided the ensemble through an eight-album output that spanned its fifteen-year run. Shifting personnel continually reshaped the band’s sonic identity while also securing frequent award nominations. The 2007 release Almost Certainly Dreaming earned Tarry a Juno Award nomination the following year. Earlier, he claimed the same honor as a member of Metalwood, whose roster included Mike Murley, Ian Froman, and Brad Turner; Tarry entered the group in 1996.
