The Christopher Dean Band, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Christopher Dean—who had previously performed with Big Jack Johnson—delivered Chicago, Texas, and Delta blues sounds throughout central New Jersey. The group’s first release, Dogged ’n Driven, appeared in 2001 and highlighted its wide-ranging blues style. A native of Edison, New Jersey, Dean received his initial guitar instruction from older brother David Foti, a bassist. After completing high school in 1992, he immersed himself in jazz, folk, country, pop, and blues playing techniques. Dean subsequently directed his own trio for several years before he and Foti entered the Oilers, the band led by Mississippi-born Big Jack Johnson. Four years later the pair exited that ensemble to launch the Christopher Dean Band.
