An accomplished yet frequently underappreciated veteran of the clarinet, Chuck Hedges delivers exciting performances that sit squarely between swing and Dixieland. During the early 1950s he worked in Chicago alongside George Brunis, Danny Alvin, and Muggsy Spanier. Toward the end of that decade he joined forces with Dave Remington, spent the 1960s touring with trumpeter Dick Ruedebusch, and maintained a steady partnership with Wild Bill Davison throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Though Milwaukee has long been his home, Hedges remains a frequent presence on Chicago stages and appears regularly at traditional jazz festivals. In 1982 he shared leadership of a Jazzology date with Allan Vache, later cutting leader sessions for Arbors and Delmark between 1992 and 2001.
