Biography
In the early 1990s Arsenio Hall emerged as a key champion of rap music through his popular talk show, which showcased live performances by leading hip-hop acts including De la Soul, Leaders of the New School, and MC Hammer. Those broadcasts prompted Hall to create Chunky A, his overweight rapping alter ego. Chunky A issued his only album, Large and in Charge, in 1991. The release drew the kind of resounding quiet that every comedian dreads, causing Chunky A to vanish almost immediately and soon dragging Arsenio Hall’s own career down with it.
