Biography
Chuy Lizárraga, a banda vocalist hailing from Sinaloa, Mexico, entered the solo marketplace with his first album in 2005 and reached international audiences on a major scale five years afterward through the breakout success of “La Peinada (La Peinadita).” He entered the world on November 9, 1976, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, and initially performed with several established banda ensembles—Banda Aramburos, La Original Banda El Limón de Salvador Lizárraga, and Banda San José de Mesillas—each of which issued recordings that showcased his vocals. Among those early projects, the two Banda San José de Mesillas sets released by EMI in 2002, Con Alma de Acero and Tu Destino, stand out as the most prominent. In 2004 he launched an independent path by forming his own ensemble, Chuy Lizárraga y Su Banda Tierra Sinaloense. After issuing Quédate Conmigo (2005) and Como Burro sin Mecate (2006) on the Int'l Latin America imprint, he moved to Disa Records, a Univision Music Group subsidiary, for the 2008 album Postrado a Tus Pies. The affiliation with Disa, the world’s second-largest regional Mexican label, expanded his following across the United States, bringing a long-sought mainstream breakthrough closer. His fourth full-length, Tu Regalo (2009), initially mirrored the modest commercial profile of its predecessor until the track “La Peinada (La Peinadita)” gradually ascended to hit status in 2010, nearly twelve months after its debut, ultimately reaching the Top Ten on Billboard’s Latin Regional Mexican Airplay chart and the Top 20 on the overall Latin Songs tally.
