Biography
Based in Alameda, California, indie-pop duo Ciao Bella united singers and songwriters Mario Hernandez and Jamie McCormick. Longtime friends, the pair had first worked together as Teeny Hi-Fi on the 1992 single “Weekend Go.” Live appearances remained extremely infrequent, so the two concentrated on home-studio sessions for several years before issuing their initial Ciao Bella release, a 1996 EP for Winnipeg’s Endearing label. March Records delivered the full-length 1 in 1997, which cultivated a worshipful following among indie-pop fanatics; after a few more compilation tracks, however, Ciao Bella entered hiatus. McCormick subsequently produced sessions for acts such as the Aislers Set and the Fairways, while Hernandez issued material under the alias From Bubblegum to Sky.
