The Latin rock outfit Cienfuegos from Argentina first entered the domestic circuit in the early 1980s, performing at that time under the name los Marginados. Sergio Rotman, formerly of los Fabulosos Cadillacs, guided the ensemble when it handled production of its own debut album in 1996. One year afterward Cienfuegos appeared on the Resiste Records anthology Buenos Aires City Rockers 2, contributing a version of the Clash’s “Straight to Hell.” The 1998 album NS/NC (No Sabe/No Contesta) contained the band’s successful cover of Talking Heads’ “Once in a Lifetime.” Ricardo Mollo of Divididos produced the third record, Hacia El Cosmos, issued in 1999 and featuring a Latin-flavor reading of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”
