Biography
Cinema Red and Blue formed as a side project drawing members from Comet Gain, the celebrated U.K. indie rock heroes, U.S. chamber poppers the Ladybug Transistor, and New York’s Crystal Stilts. During August 2009, Comet Gain vocalist/guitarist David Christian and keyboardist Anne Laure Guillain traveled to N.Y.C. for recording sessions alongside bassist Andy Adler and guitarist JB Townsend of Crystal Stilts, Kyle Forester—who performed with both Crystal Stilts and the Ladybug Transistor—and Phil Sutton, the former Comet Gain and current Soft City drummer. The weeklong session unfolded at Marlborough Farms, the Brooklyn studio headed by Ladybug Transistor leader Gary Olson. The resulting tracks combined originals written by Christian with covers of material by Dead Moon, Vic Godard, the Chills, and the Len Bright Combo. While the U.K. members remained in town, the ensemble delivered a performance at New York’s Cake Shop widely remembered as wonderfully ramshackle. New York label What’s Your Rupture? issued the group’s self-titled album in September of 2010.
