Cinematic Pop emerged as a crossover endeavor from the vision of composer and arranger Rob Gardner along with Drex Davis and McKane Davis, centering on pop material reimagined through orchestral, choral, and solo vocal forces. Prior to this, Gardner had issued multiple sacred classical compositions, one of which was Lamb of God captured by the London Symphony Orchestra alongside the Spire Chorus. The ensemble delivered a grander version of the Tears for Fears track "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" during a 2016 appearance on the television program America's Got Talent, with Spencer Jones and McKenna Breinholt providing the vocals. Their inaugural effort, the independently issued Prologue from spring 2017, charted on both the Billboard Heatseekers and classical crossover lists. The London sessions with the LSO showcased Jones, Breinholt, and Cosette Smith handling the primary singing duties across an array of covers, among them the noted Tears for Fears single plus selections first performed by Simon & Garfunkel, Boston, the Cure, and Nirvana.
