Circus

In early 2012, several prominent individual performers joined forces to create the French ensemble Circus. Among them were bassist and harmonica player Calogero, pianist and organist Stanislas, violinist Karen Brunon, and guitarists Elsa Fourlon and Philippe Uminski. Each participant is also recognized for vocal work. The ensemble’s sound merges pop, chanson, rock, and circus music. Its debut single, the digital release “Sur un Fil” (On a Wire), reached radio and download outlets in June 2012 and was followed by a self-titled album in November. The album’s tracks were composed by leading French songwriters, among them Grammy-winner Jean-Jacques Goldman, Dominique Ané (aka Dominique A), Marc Lavoine, and Marie Bastide, all centered on circus themes.
