Biography
Citizen Fish essentially reconstitute England's Subhumans, though the band leans heavily into ska-punk instead of unadorned punk. The project grew from vocalist Dick Lukas's earlier ska outfit Culture Shock and includes two additional former Subhumans members—guitarist Phil and drummer Trotsky—alongside bassist Jasper. The group launched its recording career in 1990 with Free Souls in a Trapped Environment, then delivered Wider Than a Postcard before issuing Flinch in 1994. After securing distribution through Lookout Records, Citizen Fish put out Millennia Madness in 1995 and Thirst the following year, then resurfaced in 1999 with Active Ingredients. Life Size arrived in spring 2001 as the band's debut release on Honest Don's Hardly Recordings. Early in 2007 the musicians shared a split titled Deadline with Leftöver Crack on Fat Wreck Chords, though the vinyl edition appeared through Alternative Tentacles. The band reconvened in 2011 to issue Goods, its first full-length album in a decade, again via Alternative Tentacles.
