Biography
Fred Thomas, known for his abundant output, launched City Center as another venture that steered his sound toward atmospheric and frequently electronic textures, echoing Atlas Sound or Panda Bear far more than the meticulously crafted compositions found in Saturday Looks Good to Me or his solo recordings. The project borrowed its title from the "city center" signs common throughout European cities, and Thomas started laying down tracks under the City Center name while Saturday Looks Good to Me paused after Fill Up the Room, uploading material to the project's blog and distributing CD-Rs and cassettes via imprints such as Invisible Friend and Green Records & Tapes during the first months of 2008. He completed a self-titled full-length for Type Records prior to Ryan Howard's arrival, which converted the endeavor into a duo, and that album appeared in spring 2009. Following EPs issued on Troubleman Records and M'Lady's Record, the duo delivered Redeemer, their next full-length, on K Records in 2011.
