C.K. Mann launched his career as a guitarist in the 1960s within Moses Kweku Oppong’s Kakaiku ensemble. During the 1970s he parted ways with Oppong to form Carousel Seven, where he began writing original material and anchoring a basic osode rhythm on solo guitar. That pairing produced a gently downcast tone that found strong favor across Ghana’s coastal markets. Yet mounting commercial pressures gradually softened the earthy character of his work, leading Mann to step back from music by the mid-1980s and relocate to Canada.
