Biography
AmDex and DT—also known as Dustin Teague—established Clan Destined during the summer of 2002 in Atlanta, where the pair worked simultaneously as DJs, producers, and lyricists. Though both originally hailed from North Carolina, the two first crossed paths that year at Morehouse College, with AmDex enrolled instead at Georgia State University. Drawing on their turntable and studio expertise, they assembled the broader Vinyl Junkie Clique collective along with its VJC Recordings imprint, paving the way for their underground breakthrough via the 2007 debut album Abbracadamn!!! Orlando, FL-based Domination Recordings issued the project, whose hard boom-bap thump echoed the duo’s early-’90s touchstones D.I.T.C. and Organized Konfusion while their densely layered productions and thematic rhymes reflected an OutKast- and A Tribe Called Quest-inspired sensibility. Rawkus, a prominent independent rap label, later selected Clan Destined for its “Rawkus 50” campaign in 2007, naming the group among the nation’s fifty strongest indie rap prospects. As a result, Rawkus released the And for Our Next Trick... EP that November, featuring seven remixes drawn from the debut alongside three original tracks.
