Biography
Working as both arranger and editor, Gervaise prepared music for Pierre Attaingnant and for Marie Attaingnant, the latter having assumed direction of the printing house after Pierre’s death, as well as for composers such as Certon and Gentian. He redacted and corrected the third, fourth, and fifth books of Pierre’s “Danceries” and supplied several dances for the sixth book. Pavans and galliards constituted his principal forms, though an allemande appeared from time to time. Gervaise also prepared intablatures for ten chansons scored for viol, an undertaking that may point to his favored instrument.
