Cláudio Jorge stands out as a composer, arranger, producer, and instrumentalist whose work centers primarily on samba. In his songwriting he has partnered with Cartola, João Nogueira, Aldir Blanc, Nei Lopes, Hermínio Bello de Carvalho, Ivan Wrigg, Ivor Lancellotti, Délcio Carvalho, Wilson das Neves, Ivan Lins, and Martinho da Vila. Performers who have committed his pieces to disc include Emílio Santiago, Elymar Santos, Ângela Maria, Elson do Forrogóde, Roberto Ribeiro, Zezé Mota, Jorge Aragão, Martinho da Vila, Joel Nascimento, Sivuca, Luís Carlos da Vila, Mart'náli Arranco, Alcione, and additional artists.

Highly sought after as both session musician and arranger, he developed a personal approach to the violão, collaborating in that role with Sivuca, Martinho da Vila, Simone, Renato Russo, Ney Matogrosso, Johnny Alf, Leny Andrade, Agepê, Elba Ramalho, Neguinho da Beija Flor, Alcione, Nelson Gonçalves, Leila Pinheiro, Fátima Guedes, João Donato, Leci Brandão, Negritude Jr., Carlos Lyra, Beth Carvalho, Ivan Lins, Gabriel o Pensador, Miúcha, Katinguelê, Jamelão, Zé Renato, Elza Soares, Fundo de Quintal, and Malícia, while also appearing on recordings by first-division samba schools. International sessions have placed him on albums issued in Germany by Sebastião Tapajós, in the United States by Dionne Warwick and Sérgio Mendes (the latter earning a 1992 Grammy), and in Japan by Lisa Ono, Carlos Lyra, and Sandii.

His production credits encompass Roberto Ribeiro, Luís Carlos da Vila’s Candeia, Nei Lopes’s Sincopando o Breque, and Arlindo Cruz e Sombrinha. Jorge helped establish the ensemble Batacotô and remains active in the ala dos compositores of the Unidos de Vila Isabel samba school. He began playing violão around the age of twenty, accompanying such figures as Ismael Silva and Cartola, and subsequently performed and recorded alongside Nelson Cavaquinho and Clementina de Jesus. His debut solo album, on which he served as lead vocalist and principal composer, appeared during the 1980s.
