Biography
Claudio Roditi stands out as an exceptional yet occasionally underappreciated trumpeter, frequently likened to the Kenny Dorham of the 1990s, and he delivers consistently thrilling performances rooted in hard bop. Arriving in the United States to enroll at Berklee from 1970 to 1971, he performed in the Boston vicinity before relocating to New York in 1976. His associations encompassed Charlie Rouse and Herbie Mann, yet his most consequential partnership emerged in the early 1980s through ongoing work with Paquito D'Rivera. This dependable musician has appeared on numerous straight-ahead recording dates while also serving as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra. Leading his own sessions, Roditi recorded for Green Street, including an obscure 1984 date, as well as Uptown, Candid, and Reservoir, among additional labels.
