Biography
Clinton Hensley, a musician from Virginia, established the Royheads together with Randall Hodge, a classmate from his earlier days, after discovering their common enthusiasm for experimental music. The duo's album About Anything with More to Come & 12 Other Songs came out on Stop//Gap Records toward the close of 2009, highlighting their erratic mix of styles drawn from psychedelic pop, modal jazz, and avant-garde classical. In the year after that, Hensley put out his first solo record, Here's to Ambivalence, notably calmer compared to the Royheads material. Tripping Over Pillows followed in 2012, further refining the psych-pop approach that Hensley had developed. The year 2015 brought Needle in Cotton, Hensley's broadest release to date at eighty minutes, blending soul, blues, stoner rock, post-punk, and orchestral pop within his continually growing sonic palette.
