Biography
In 2009 the Brooklyn, NY outfit Coasting originated as a partnership uniting Fiona Campbell—a New Zealand transplant and one-time Coolies participant—with Madison Farmer. Farmer’s gritty, unfocused surf-derived guitars, indistinct vocals, and elemental pop leanings evoke the approach of indie-pop outfits such as Best Coast, Brilliant Colors, and the Drums. Their inaugural 7" single appeared on the Washington, D.C. imprint M’Lady’s Records in 2010, while a cassette EP for Sixteen Tambourines and two further 7" singles—one issued by Group Tightener and the other by Atelier Ciseaux—were scheduled to follow before year’s end.
