In the guise of Coco de Mer, producer and composer Adam Plack—born in Australia and now based in New York—blends classic arias from French, Italian, and Latin traditions with rich orchestral arrangements atop downtempo rhythmic foundations. This intricate and bold stylistic blend incorporates global inspirations while appealing to modern city listeners even though it is presented in classical form. Plack's first album under the Coco de Mer name, self-titled and issued by Rasa Music during 2002, was promoted with the description "a new generation of opera." Soprano Chen Reis, pianist Ilan Rechtman, along with a 34-piece orchestra, appear on the recording, which explores subjects of passion and seduction.
