Olov Antonsson launched Cocoanut Groove as his solo endeavor, initiating recordings under this moniker during summer 2007. On those initial tracks, he collaborated with Calle Thoor, Frida Danielsson, Ivar Lantz, and Mattias Malm to craft an indie pop style that is polished yet lethargic and somber, echoing the Clientele while drawing from the gentle psychedelic elements found in the Zombies and Mortimer. The project's inaugural 7-inch single, titled The End of Summer on Bookbinder Road/Shadow, came out via London's Phonic Kidnapping Recordings in May 2008. Later in the same year, the Swedish imprint Fridlyst issued the debut full-length effort Madeleine Street. Following a period of several years during which only sporadic singles appeared, Antonsson resurfaced in 2013 with the second album How to Build a Maze. This record emerged simultaneously through Fortuna Pop and Plastilina, arriving in autumn amid the changing foliage, an apt season for its distinctly fall-oriented sound.
