Rock & roll devotees Bill and Lisa Roe operate the modest Trouble in Mind Records while leading the garage punk band CoCoComa between their day jobs and caring for their young daughter. The Chicago-based couple launched CoCoComa in 2005, with Bill handling drums and lead vocals, Lisa playing guitar and supplying backing vocals, and Mike Fitzpatrick covering bass, organ, and backing vocals. During 2006 the group issued numerous 7" singles and split EPs across several labels, then partnered with Memphis-based Goner Records for their self-titled debut album in 2007. By 2008 the band’s outlook looked uncertain after Fitzpatrick departed for New York state and Lisa learned she was pregnant, prompting the Roes to weigh whether the group should continue. Still, after stockpiling fresh material the couple resolved to record again and brought in Anthony Cozzi on guitar and organ along with Tyler Brock on bass. This revised lineup delivered 2009’s Things Are Not All Right, whose warm reception from listeners and reviewers persuaded the Roes to persist. They also found that their infant daughter tolerated travel well, easing any touring concerns. While juggling parenthood, employment, and Trouble in Mind duties, Bill and Lisa arranged further road work across the United States and abroad with their bandmates, then compiled the 2010 release Spectrum of Sounds. The collection gathers tracks from CoCoComa’s initial singles and EPs together with previously unreleased numbers and live recordings.
