Tracing their sound to Black Sabbath as well as doom forebears Saint Vitus and Sleep, the California doom outfit Cold Mourning took shape in 1992 after rising from the earlier Cremation project that had launched in 1986. A first demo surfaced two years afterward, succeeded by a split release alongside Holland’s Officium Triste, a split 7" single with While Heaven Wept, and a 1999 contribution to the At the Mountains of Madness compilation. The band’s debut album, Lower Than Low, finally arrived in 2000 while Mat Bilac handled vocals and guitars, Angelo Tringali played lead guitar, Bruce Blankenship covered bass, and U.A. sat behind the drums. After that point the group fell silent, with no further activity documented.
