In 1998 the ambient pop experimentalists Coldharbourstores assembled in London, England. What started as the trio Daniel Bowling, Michael McCabe, and David Read produced a demo after twelve months of songwriting and refinement, prompting the musicians to pursue label support. U.K. indie Rocket Girl expressed interest and finalized an agreement. Füxa’s Randall Niemann, a fellow label artist, handled production on the band’s first single, 2000’s All That Matters Now. Drummer Samuel Laws joined later that year, turning the lineup into a quartet; their debut recording together, the single A Day Gone By, appeared before December ended. Graham Sutton (Bark Psychosis, Boymerang) supplied production guidance for the next project, More Than the Other, which reached stores in early 2002.
