While Texas has long been linked to the raw-edged rock of ZZ Top and Pantera, the early years of the twenty-first century brought forward Color, a Lone Star State quartet whose sound leaned closer to pop/rock hitmakers such as Matchbox Twenty and Third Eye Blind. The group’s lineup includes vocalist Chris Cann, guitarist Dean Truitt, bassist Chad Salls, and drummer Van Robbins. Formed in Austin in the late 1990s, the band counted Salls and Truitt as alumni of the short-lived early-’90s power pop outfit Seed. Color released its debut album, Are You With Me?, in September 2001 on the Arista imprint Melisma; Grammy Award-winning producer Matt Serletic, whose résumé already featured work with Matchbox Twenty, Aerosmith, and Santana, oversaw the sessions.
