Biography
In a New York City apartment during 1991, Jon Chaikin initiated Coloring Book by capturing several tracks on four-track using only his guitar. Vocalist and drummer Jen Matson joined the part-time group, which delivered a stripped-down indie approach built around alternating male and female vocals. The band first established its signature sound with the self-titled EP issued in 1993, then sustained limited activity across subsequent years while restricting live appearances to five shows between 1994 and 1998. Scattered tracks continued to surface on compilations during this span, including one placed on the 1998 album This Is Stereophonic Sunshine.
