Biography
Paul Kamanski, born in 1955 in Redwood City, California, served as guitarist and vocalist while contributing eleven songs to the catalog of roots rock outfit the Beat Farmers. Increasingly, the spotlight has shifted toward his own project, Comanche Moon. That ensemble’s first release, Electric Lizardland, earned the San Diego Music Award for best album of 1995. Since the early 1980s Kamanski has remained a steady presence on the San Diego music circuit, performing with several groups such as the Electric Sons, the Pleasure Barons—which included a young Dave Alvin—and Country Dick And The Snugglebunnies, where he first encountered future Beat Farmers Dan McLain and Joey Harris. His association with McLain extended past the Beat Farmers; he wrote the tracks “Anywhere” and “Indigo Rider” for McLain’s solo album The Devil Lied To Me, issued after McLain’s death. Comanche Moon, established in the mid-1980s, frequently opened for the Beat Farmers during its initial live appearances.
