Cones

The Rosen brothers Jonathan and Michael, both based in Los Angeles, each served in the touring ensemble behind Fiery Furnaces’ Eleanor Friedberger throughout the mid-2010s. Time spent on the road prompted them to consider forming their own project that would fuse their differing musical temperaments. They launched the duo Cones in 2016, merging Jonathan’s enduring devotion to pop with Michael’s inclination toward atmospheric textures. Jonathan, a recognized animator, produced a hand-drawn clip for the duo’s first single, “Echoes On,” during spring 2017. By the close of that summer Cones had delivered two further pieces of their restless yet tuneful pop with the second and third singles “Back in the Brain” and “Whatever You’re Into.”
