Biography
During the 1960s singer and songwriter Connie Hall maintained a short country music career whose chief markers were the hits "It's Not Wrong" and "Fool Me Once." Born in Kentucky and raised in Cincinnati, she began appearing locally as a teenager. After finishing high school she took a position at the Jimmie Skinner Music Center in Ohio and soon afterward became a regular vocalist on WZIP radio in nearby Covington, Kentucky. Beginning in 1954 she worked with Skinner on additional programs for several years and also appeared as a weather girl on a local television station.
Her first recording was the 1957 duet with Skinner, "We've Got Things in Common." The solo single "I'm the Girl in the USA" followed in 1958, and the next year she scored her initial hit when "The Bottle or Me" reached near the Top 20. Signing with Decca in 1960, she received production support from Harry Silverstein that carried "Poison in Your Hand" into the Top 25 and its B-side "It's Not Wrong" into the Top 20; the latter track answered Warner Mack's 1958 hit "Is It Wrong (For Loving You)." She spent three years at the label and logged seven further respectable chart entries that included "Sleep, Baby, Sleep" and "Fool Me Once." Hall also performed on the Grand Ole Opry, Louisiana Hayride, and Midwestern Hayride.
