Despite implying a woman out front, the Connie Price & the Keystones endeavor is actually driven by Los Angeles guitarist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Dan Ubick—known from Breakestra—alongside his collaborator, trumpeter and arranger Todd M. Simon. Seeking a pseudonym for his own drumming contributions in the studio, where he handled the bulk of the instrumentation, Ubick settled on Connie Price as the moniker for this funk-throwback collective. The Keystones delivered the EP Blood's Haul in 2004 via the Now Again label under Stones Throw, while the instrumental track Wildflowers also appeared that year. Sticks & Stones followed as another EP in 2005. By 2008, with Ubick and Simon joined by their customary circle of Los Angeles players and now signed to Ubiquity Records, the project released Tell Me Something, which included guest spots from rappers such as Percee P and Big Daddy Kane—both subjects of a separate 12-inch the Keystones cut for Scion—alongside Ohmega Watts and Freestyle Fellowship’s Myka Nyne.
