Biography
In 1990, at the height of the style's popularity, industrial metal veterans Contingence launched their exploration of electronic-driven disorder. Founder, vocalist, and programmer Xerxes Non, influenced by the expanding Wax Trax scene, started issuing his personal sonic experiments, which he assembled at home using restricted equipment. As the act's underground profile increased, Non introduced clear refinements to their sonic direction. Guitarist Johnny Lenzini joined in 1994, shifting the sound toward heavy metal and creating the need for a drummer. Johnny Ostrem secured that position in 1996, rounding out the trio. Live performances then gained priority, leading the group to hone its approach as album recognition climbed.
