Biography
Formed in Rio de Janeiro during 1995, the instrumental ensemble Conversa de Cordas concentrates on Brazilian popular and folkloric styles that receive reinterpretation from a classical vantage point. Their debut recording Biscuit secured a Sharp Prize nomination for best instrumental album of that year. In 1995 newspapers O Globo and O Estado de São Paulo designated Conversa de Cordas the Revelation of the Year among instrumental groups. The Coca-Cola Prize recognized their theater scores for Romão e Julinha and for O Circo Mágico de Provolone, Goiabada e Guaraná across 1996 and 1997. Another Sharp Prize nomination for best instrumental release of the year went to the group’s second album Vou Vivendo de Folia, issued in 1996.
