Biography
Emerging from Boston’s roots rock scene, harmonica player Jim Fitting gradually advanced through the local underground before launching the Coots. He had earlier served as harpist in the 1980s roots outfit Treat Her Right, whose lineup also included Morphine vocalist Mark Sandman. After that band split, he made guest appearances with Bonnie Raitt and The The on several occasions. In 1999 Fitting joined keyboardist Evan Harriman, drummer Phil Neighbors, and “King” Kane—bassist from G. Love and Special Sauce—to form the Coots. Their debut release, Message From the Seventh Dimension, appeared in 2001.
