Biography
In 1965 vocalist Kenny Hollis joined keyboardist Rich Wamil to launch a group that began life as the Penny Farthings. The Ontario pair adopted the name Copperpenny in 1966, then steadily expanded the lineup by bringing in drummer Blake Barrett, bassist Ron Hiller and guitarist Bill Mononen. Late-sixties Canadian successes appeared on Columbia with “Nice Girl” and on RCA with “Stop (Wait a Minute),” followed by a self-titled album issued in 1970. A move to a London Records subsidiary in 1973 yielded the breakthrough single “You’re Still the One,” while Sittin’ on a Poor Man’s Throne arrived the same year. Copperpenny switched to Capitol in 1975; one year afterward the band issued The Fuse Album under the billing Rich Wamil & Copperpenny. Several years after the group dissolved, Kenny Hollis launched a short-lived solo career in 1979.
