Coming from a family connected to the celebrated folk figure Mercedes Sosa, Argentine singer and songwriter Coqui Sosa drew early motivation from relatives to enter the music profession. Picking up guitar and vocals in childhood, he took part in various regional traditional gatherings and rose to prominence as a featured performer at Cosquin's National Folk Festival. His debut effort, the independently issued A Pesar de Todo, appeared in 1990, with Viene Clareando arriving two years later. The 1993 release Siglo de Esperanza received its stage premiere at Buenos Aires' Alvear Theater in a concert shared with Víctor Heredia, Teresa Parodi, Roberto Carabajal, and his celebrated aunt. Following the live recording Coqui Sosa En Vivo, he joined Epsa Music to produce Clásicos & Sueños. Relocating to the United States in September 1996, the performer appeared at New York's Lincoln Center and Washington's University. Cuando Canto reached listeners in 1998.
