Biography
Born on 8 May 1976 in Dublin, Eire, Kenevey first encountered jazz as a youngster through the extensive record library assembled by his father, a working pianist and session musician. Beginning at twelve, he pursued classical clarinet studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and performed regularly with its symphony orchestra. While completing a degree in geography and archaeology, he took up drums and vocals in the Dublin rock outfit Milestone and simultaneously directed the University College Dublin Concert Band; he also founded the UCD Jazz Ensemble during those years. After a period working as a software consultant, he abandoned that career in 2001 to sing professionally full time.
Drawing inspiration from Mel Tormé, Mark Murphy, Kurt Elling and Al Jarreau, Kenevey has appeared across Eire and the UK at clubs and festivals, among them the Cork Jazz Festival as well as events in Dubai and Marbella, Spain. His sets mix familiar standards with jazz material and original songs, earning consistent critical notice. Appearances scheduled for 2008 featured performances alongside the City Of Dublin Jazz Orchestra, a slot at Eire’s Electric Picnic summer festival, and a German tour.
