Biography
Gabriele Gramaglia, a multi-instrumentalist whose style revives death metal in its rawest and most punishing form, extends an already substantial catalog through the solo outlet Cosmic Putrefaction. The project unleashes a barrage of dense, guttural doom across a sequence of albums that begins with the 2019 debut At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm and reaches Emerald Fires Atop the Farewell Mountains in 2024.
Born in Milan, Italy, Gramaglia rose to prominence within European death metal throughout the 2010s. He also directs the progressive death metal endeavor the Clearing Path and has appeared on dissonant recordings by fellow acts such as Vertebra Atlantis and Turris Eburnea. Under the Cosmic Putrefaction banner, the focus remains a relentless sonic attack that threads narratives of a lone survivor navigating a ruined world through every release. The 2019 album At the Threshold of the Greatest Chasm included guest vocals from Brendan Sloane and black metal vocalist XN, the latter of whom would later join Gramaglia in Hadit, while Gramaglia handled all other performance and recording duties. The follow-up efforts The Horizons Toward Which Splendor Withers (2020) and Crepuscular Dirge for the Blessed Ones (2022) stayed largely self-contained, yet Emerald Fires Atop the Farewell Mountains (2024) introduced clean vocals from Italian scene veteran Giorgio Trombino, set against Gramaglia’s own savage growls.
