Born around 1925 near Shreveport, Louisiana, Jim Bledsoe remained a relatively little-known figure in the blues world. Between 1949 and 1950 he cut a handful of sides locally, relying solely on guitar, string bass, and sporadic drums to deliver raw, down-home country blues. Issued first on the regional Pacemaker imprint as Hot Rod Happy, his debut gained only modest exposure, whereas subsequent releases on Imperial reached a broader audience. Roughly twelve months afterward he laid down two extended sessions for Specialty, yet none of the material saw release during his active years; a selection of those tracks finally surfaced on compilation albums in the 1970s.
