Cousins

Prior to the duo’s formation, Aaron Mangle had already issued solo material under the name A Helpful Diagram. When he began collaborating with Pat Ryan, the pair launched Cousins, a Nova Scotia indie rock duo whose early work favored a lo-fi aesthetic and yielded grainy, tape-saturated tracks. Mangle oversaw the bulk of the recording process and performed on every instrument aside from drums, after which the songs were issued on cassettes sold directly at concerts. In 2009 he chose to document a Cousins album for Youth Club Records, enlisting drummer Andy March and bassist Dalin Ursenbach to complete the sessions that became Out on Town.
