Biography
Formed as a five-piece country outfit, Cowboy Crush built an audience through grassroots enthusiasm rather than industry machinery. Their vocal blend and instrumental skill mattered, yet the decisive factor proved to be an explosive debut performance that generated fifty immediate offers. Trenna Barnes on vocals, Renaé Truex handling fiddle and mandolin, Becky Priest contributing vocals and keyboards, Debbie Johnson supplying vocals and bass, and Darla Perlozzi on drums had each previously worked in separate Nashville ensembles before uniting in March 2003. By October they chose to step forward publicly, accepting a slot at the International Entertainment Buyers convention. That appearance produced the flood of bookings and soon propelled the group beyond convention halls into major venues. They supported Travis Tritt, Lonestar, and Trace Adkins on tour while appearing at numerous festivals, driving 1,700,000 visitors to the band’s website. Major labels took notice, and Asylum/Curb ultimately secured the contract. The label issued the single “Nobody Ever Died of a Broken Heart” in May 2005; the track quickly ascended country radio charts while its video received repeated exposure on CMT.
