Biography
Formed as a side endeavor in the Christian punk realm, Crash Rickshaw brings together bassist Steve Dail and drummer Alex Albert of Project 86 with singer/guitarist Joby Harris, who writes the lyrics and leads the performances after prior stints in Phatso, the Moodswingers, and Rainy Day. Dail and Albert had first met Harris when his group opened for Project 86 and later stayed at his Burbank home during the sessions for their own debut record; conversations about working together followed, and the three moved forward once Project 86 entered a hiatus. Drawing from melodic punk while also embracing the intricate approach of emocore groups such as Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate, the band cut a demo that promptly drew interest from Tooth & Nail Records. The trio then tracked its debut album in a Burbank studio under producer Bryan Jerden, son of hard rock producer Dave Jerden; issued under the plain title Crash Rickshaw, the record appeared in late summer 2001.
