Biography
Cravin' Melon originated in 1994 at Clemson University in South Carolina, drawing its lineup from the remains of two established regional outfits. Vocalist Doug Jones and bassist J.J. Bowers had previously performed together in the duo Doghouse, whereas guitarist Jimbo Chapman and drummer Rick Reames both emerged from the Next Move. The band rapidly became one of the southeast's leading live draws and soon put out a self-titled five-song demo EP that vanished from stock after just a few performances. Early 1995 brought the full-length Where I Wanna Be, which received heavy local radio airplay. Following a deal with Mercury, Cravin' Melon delivered its major-label debut Red Clay Harvest in 1997; that project featured new bassist/vocalist Rob Clay, after which the live EP Squeeze Me appeared in 1998. Two years later the group returned with The Great Procrastinator.
