Biography
Craving Theo took shape as a Portland-based quartet and stepped onto the national stage in 2002 when Columbia issued their debut album, carrying forward the Pacific Northwest’s hard-rock legacy that Nirvana, Soundgarden, and especially Alice in Chains had established roughly ten years earlier. By the summer of 1999 three of the eventual members—lead singer and guitarist Calvin Baty, bassist Brian McMillen, and drummer Jason Dunn—had already begun working together. Once guitarist Bob Capka joined and producer Rick Parashar, known for his work with Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam, came aboard, the group completed its self-titled record in October 2000. Persistent live performances, coupled with frequent local airplay of the track “Stomp” on a Portland station, steadily expanded their audience. Columbia subsequently acquired the finished album, signed the band, and re-released the project in 2002.
