Biography
Cris Braun entered the world in Rio Grande do Sul before relocating to Maceió in the 1970s, where she took up the guitar and received vocal instruction. Additional work on percussion, keyboards, and songwriting led her to begin performing in 1985 at Rio de Janeiro’s Mistura Fina nightclub. Five years afterward, the Sex Beatles recruited her as lead vocalist. In her role as composer she has partnered with Alvin L. and Paula Toller; one result, “Como É Que Eu Vou Embora?,” written with George Israel and Paula Toller, reached the Top Ten in Kid Abelha’s 1997 recording. Belô Velloso later cut “Menos Carnaval,” another Braun–Alvin L. collaboration. Marina Lima personally invited Braun to release her debut album, Cuidado Com Pessoas Como Eu, on the Fullgás label. Braun took part in Rádio JB FM’s Novo Canto project in 1998 and, the next year, contributed to Songbook Chico Buarque by interpreting “A Voz do Dono e O Dono da Voz,” written by Chico Buarque.
